Jeroen Jongeleen considers opposition an essential condition for a truly vibrant democratic society. With his works in public space, he questions the way corporate influence, advertising, architecture, and regulations limit and direct a citizen’s behavior. The texts on these banners are urgent observations about our contemporary online culture. As humans, we tend to notice patterns in unrelated data: this is what makes us so sensitive to QAnon and other conspiracy theories. By presenting statements on these issues as larger-than-life slogans, we can use our physical environment to expose the deceptions of Internet culture.
