Beeple, 2021

#Neon Gods

For over a decade, trailblazing artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann) has been posting ‘art crap’, digital daily drawings in which – piece by piece – he creates a world dominated by a technology that is out of control. It resulted in his giant digital artwork ‘Everydays: The First 5,000 Days’, which was recently auctioned for a record 50 million euros in bitcoins. It was the first time Christie’s auctioned off virtual art and this bold move immediately resulted in one of the three most expensively auctioned artworks of living artists to date. Has reality caught up with Beeple’s art? In any case, he is the driving force behind an unprecedented art market in which physical appearance no longer seems to matter.
